Welcome to the March selection of prints. We are optimistically calling it A Spring Selection. These are difficult times for everyone. Toshidama Gallery is still very active; we are talking to our shippers and it appears that shipments via Royal Mail and DHL are running more or less as normally including international shipments. We extend our thoughts to any of our clients who are suffering or who have loved ones who are suffering.
The current selection includes new prints from ten artists, including prints from the Osaka School. Another beautiful drawing by the rare artist Munehiro, two absolutely outstanding diptychs by Hirosada including his first series that uses full length figures, depicting the life of the Buddhist Saint, Nichiren. We have a rare print in mint condition by Hironobu, and an outstanding full length oban by Shigeharu.
The star of the show is one of the finest Kunichika okubi-e that we have shown: the actor Otani Tomoemon as Michikaze in the drama, The Green Willow Inkstone of Ono Michikaze. The print is almost as the day that it was printed… clean, crisp and exquisitely realised. There are lovely oban prints by Kunichika, notably a very fine Lion Dancer from his satirical series, Twenty-four Paragons of The Meiji Restoration. We have a further print by Kunisada from the very luscious series of actors and Hagoita - this print showing the female outlaw Omatsu played by the kabuki actor Bando Shuka.
We have lowered the prices on prints that have been shown before and newsletter subscribers will be able to purchase with a 10% discount. Don't forget to sign up to the newsletter for your discount code. Again, we hope that all our clients remain well during the current crisis and that the coming spring will bring a change of fortune.
