An outstanding print in this month's sale is the spectacular Nobukatsu print of Onoe Kikugoro V as Kan Shojo, the Thunder God; and elsewhere there are Osaka prints by Hirosada, Yoshitaki, Kunishige and Ashiyuki, the latter's triptych of Nakamura Matsue III as Akoya in Dan no Ura Kabuto Gunki a truly stand-out piece.
Hiroshige is represented by his unusual but delightful and very early print of The Courtesan Kashiku, from the series Five Festivals of the Pleasure Quarter and there are other beauties by Chikanobu and Kunichika from later in the century.
With prints by Kuniyoshi (including the terrific Biography of Yoshitsune: Secrets of Strategy, Gojo Bridge) Kunisada, Kunichika, Yoshikuni and Hirosada, amongst many others, there is much here to enjoy.
